Being from Wisconsin, I have many favorite local cheeses. My all-time favorite is the 10-year cheddar from Hook's Cheese Company in Mineral Point. Get it at the Dane County Farmer's Market under their purple and yellow tent. It's a revelation. And if you ever see their 15-year cheddar available for purchase, buy it immediately with no second thought. It is a rare treat, and worth every penny. Another favorite is Roth's Private Reserve from Roth Käse in Monroe. Good Alpine-style cheese. And of course, any variety of fresh Wisconsin cheese curds is a lockdown hall-of-fame favorite forever. Deep-fried or squeaky out of the bag. Doesn't matter.

Cypress Grove – their chevres and other cheeses (Humboldt Fog, Midnight Moon, Lamb Chopper). Lucky that they’re local to me!

I’m allergic to dairy, but all my friends say the Steamboat Island Goat Farm has the best cheese in these parts! Wowza!

Mairieke Fenugreek Gouda – from Wisconsin. It’s the cheese I bring to parties that everyone loves. The fenugreek adds a maple flavor to the cheese that is unusual and addictive!

And just why is goat cheese so good? Is there something magical about those cute little guys? I really like Pure Luck Dairy in Dripping Springs TX.

OMG! We have such awesome local cheese! My absolute fav is the Award Winning Rogue Creamery Blue Cheeses, especially Crater Lake Blue. Then there’s Mama Tierra’s goat feta and Siskiyou Crest’s goat chevre. Love the goats.

Too many great choices. It could be the Big Woods Bleu from Shepherd’s Way Farm, or possibly the Alemar camember-style–both made in Minnesota. And of course, PastureLand makes some amazing cheeses, with milk from grass-fed cows!
